Weber grills are known as being some of the best but how does the Q 2200 hold up? Well, with great temperature regulation, grilling capabilities, heat retention, and ease of use, it readily measures up.

I have been using grills since I was in my teens and have had my fair share of experiences with a wide varieties of brands and models.

In this Weber Q 2200 review I will outline the specs, features, and discuss the pros and cons of the model. Let's begin!

Weber Q 2200 Features and Performance

Let's take a closer look at what this gas grill has to offer:

The Assembly

It doesn't matter how many grills I have put together, it is not a process that I relish or look forward to. There are typically too many parts, too many tools required, and a complicated manual waiting to be translated.

BBQ Beef Ribs

However, I was pleasantly surprised by this portable cart. I only needed a screwdriver and there were a minimal number of components. This made it all the easier to figure out the instructions. I actually had this up and running within a matter of minutes, definitely a new experience for me!

The Overall Design

First things first, let's talk about the design of this portable grill. I quite like it - its compact size means that it can be set up virtually anywhere. At the same time, the structure ensures stability - even with the additional weight of food.

Speaking of weight, one of the few negative things that I do have to say about the Weber Q 2200 is regarding how heavy it is. For a portable gas grill, it can be quite heavy, making it difficult to lug around, particularly on its own.

And, when you compare it to other portable grills in its class, this is definitely the heftier option.

I also like the side tables - they are high quality and are perfectly designed to hold food. In case you think that this is a trivial feature, it isn't one that is available with many larger models. At the same time, it saves you both money and hassle in having to buy third party side tables for outdoor grilling.

Quality

This portable grill is far from cheap but I would argue that you are investing in the Weber brand and this is certainly worth the extra cash. It isn't just about the features and how well the grill works - just take a look at the quality of the components.

In fact, some of its weight can actually be forgiven due to how well constructed this gas grill is. To begin with, the main structure is made from heat resistant reinforced nylon. Then, you have the cast aluminum lid that holds up just as well.

Last, but certainly, not least there is the stainless steel burner that offers both quality as well as power.

The Cooking Space

Naturally, the Weber Q 2200 is meant to be portable, so its small cooking space isn't too surprising. Despite this, I wouldn't say that the grilling space is overly compact. This is because you have enough room for 12 burgers or a few more hot dogs at one time on the cooking grates.

What's more, the domed lid creates space for larger roasts. A whole chicken or even a small brisket shouldn't be too much hard work on this grill. Thus, you do have a few more options for what you can cook with the Weber Q2200.

If you are catering to small family or even small party, you should be able to ensure that everyone is fed in a timely manner.

Temperature Regulation and Maintenance

One of the benefits of this gas grill - and others like it - is that size doesn't matter. As long as it is hooked up to enough propane gas, it is able to produce a good amount of heat. This model, in particular, does a great job of reaching higher temperatures.

You will have no problem getting up to 500 Fahrenheit degrees, something that you can expect with larger grills. Thus, you can easily tackle all kinds of meat and can even give searing a try.

If you are looking for a temperature higher than this, though, you may find the Weber Q 2200 faltering. Of course, this is true of bigger and more expensive grills. I also can't imagine too many instances when you would need this kind of power, especially when grilling in small outdoor spaces.

I also like that there is a built in thermometer - a hood mounted thermometer, in fact. As with most of these, you do have to be wary of them - they tend to be off by a few degrees in either direction. Still, it is a nice and useful feature.

As far as heat retention goes, the cast aluminum lid does a pretty good job at keeping the heat trapped inside. As long as you keep the lid closed, you shouldn't lose heat and will be able to cook the food faster.

Cooking Performance

I have to say, overall, I was impressed with what a good cooking performance the Weber Q 2200 offers up. Although it has a few limitations that you wouldn't necessarily find with a whole grill, I did enjoy grilling on it.

The cast iron grates come into play here. They are able to transfer heat evenly which results in more even cooking. Thus, similar foods of similar sizes cook at the same rate.

Another interesting feature is that with there is an additional hose attachment that you can purchase from the company. With this, you can hook the grill up to a 20lb propane gas tank. As such, you can cook as much or for as long as you like!

The biggest issue here would be with the fact that there is only one burner. Now, given the size of the model this isn't too surprising, but it does create a small issue when it comes to indirect cooking.

While it doesn't mean that ribs and similar foods are of the table, it can make it trickier to cook them. After all, grilling on a lower temperature doesn't have nearly the same effect.

Ease of Use

Even as a seasoned BBQ cook, I am still excited by the electronic ignition on this gas grill. If you have ever tried to manually start a fire, even on an electric grill, then you know what a hassle it can be.

Grilled spiral sausages with steak

What's even more impressive than this feature is the fact that it is actually responsive. More often than not, I pushed the fire and the grill roared to life. This can save you a lot of time, particularly when you are trying to grill somewhere outside of your home.

In general, though, this gas grill is pretty easy to use. After a quick read through of the manual, even first timers shouldn't have too much trouble figuring how it works.

I know my way around a grill but even I had to appreciate how simple the Weber Q 2200 is to use. It is the kind of machine that makes you want to grill several times a week. What more can you ask from your grill?

Cleaning and Maintenance

Like most people, i don't enjoy cleaning grills, but this model certainly made the experience a lot better. Once the grill cooled, I was able to easily pry off food and build up on the cooking grates. The porcelain coated cast iron grates made this a breeze to do.

The only other element that you have to be fastidious about cleaning is the drip pan. However, even with frequent use, this only needs to be emptied and cleaned out occasionally. To make this job even simpler, I like to line the tray with aluminum foil.

Additional Features

This grill doesn't have the much in the way of bells and whistles. It is pretty straightforward. That being said, the folding tables and the hood thermometer are more than enough additions to this grill.

After all, if portability is what you are after, you also want to keep things simple. The pared down design is also great for an easier grilling experience, particularly for newbies.

How Does the Weber Q 2200 Compare to the Competition?

The closest competition that this grill has is the Q 2000, which is about $25 dollar cheaper.

Then, what is the difference between Weber 2000 and 2200? And, is it worth for you to splurge a bit more on the 2200.

The only real difference is that the 2200 is a bit bigger and it has a hood thermometer. However, what I have seen of the 2200 makes it a good investment for you. It also saves you the hassle of having to purchase a separate thermometer as well.

The Final Verdict - Is the Weber Q2200 Good?

I have to say that I didn't expect the Q 2200 to function and perform as well as it did. From putting it together to actually using the grill, it has been a wonderful experience all around. And, while I will be using my whole grills for heavy duty grilling and smoking, this has earned its spot in my collection.

This is a great grill to take for any outdoor function. It has enough of cooking space for a small family and its temperatures are high enough to tackle almost any kind of BBQing that you can imagine. It is also really easy to use and a lot of fun to work with as well.

Sure, it is heavier than what I would like and has just one burner. There aren't too many additional features either, but there isn't much to complain about this grill. Newbies and pros alike are going to get a kick out of using it!
